Tajikistan and Green Climate Fund strengthen collaboration on climate action

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, received Ms. Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on May 30, 2025.

 

Ms. Duarte's visit to Dushanbe was for her participation in the inaugural High-Level International Conference on Glacier Preservation.

 

 

During their meeting, President Rahmon conveyed his expectation that the Green Climate Fund would play a crucial role in achieving the conference's goals and in advancing worldwide initiatives to combat the accelerated melting of glaciers.

 

Key areas of discussion included the implementation of projects in energy, agriculture, strengthening resilience to natural hazards, fostering private sector growth, and enhancing meteorological services.

 

Meantime on May 27, Bahodur Sheralizoda, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP) under the Government of Tajikistan, held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (#GCF) as part of her visit to Tajikistan to participate at the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation to be held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31, 2025.

 


The discussions focused on strengthening Tajikistan’s partnership with the GCF, including progress on the ongoing project portfolio and the implementation of the GCF Country Program in Tajikistan. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between Tajikistan’s National Designated Authority (NDA) and relevant GCF departments to enhance climate resilience.
Additionally, the parties explored the possibility of hosting a GCF Board meeting in Tajikistan in the near future, underscoring the country’s commitment and leadership to global climate action and sustainable development.
