South African Ambassador to Korea Sindiswa Ntombolimo Mququ visited the Dangjin cable factory of Taihan Cable & Solution Co. on March 19 to discuss ways to expand business in South Africa, the company announced on March 20.

The meeting was held at the factory to help the ambassador gain a better understanding of the cable production process and provide experience in a large-scale production facility.

This is the first time that Ambassador Mququ, who was newly appointed in October last year, has visited a private company, Taihan Cable & Solution said.

During the tour of the Dangjin cable plant, Ambassador Mququ discussed the direction of South Africa's power development with Song Jong-min, vice chairman of Taihan Cable & Solution.

He also discussed the business status and support measures of M-TEC, the South African production subsidiary of Taihan Cable & Solution, and shared its ongoing facility expansion plans.

M-TEC is a joint venture established in 2000 with investment by Taihan Cable & Solution and employs about 350 local employees. In the first half of this year, the company plans to expand its production capacity by introducing additional low- and medium-voltage cable production facilities and complete the expansion of facilities to improve quality.

Ambassador Mququ said, “We are grateful for Taihan Cable & Solution's contributions to stabilizing the local power supply and creating jobs.” She added, “We look forward to Taihan's activities as South Africa is actively investing in renewable energy such as solar and offshore wind power as well as power infrastructure.”

“Africa is an open market for business expansion due to its abundant physical and human resources, and South Africa is a country we have always been paying attention to due to its high level of economic and educational infrastructure,” said Song Jong-min. ”We will continue to strengthen M-TEC's competitiveness to increase sales in South Africa and expand exports to neighboring African countries.”
