The British Embassy in Korea participated in the Asia Pacific Wind Energy Summit 2024 as the UK Pavilion, showcasing its offshore wind capabilities.
The British Embassy announced on Nov. 27 that it participated as the British Pavilion at the wind energy summit, which began the previous day at Songdo Convensia in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, to showcase the UK's offshore wind capabilities.
Various British companies and organizations exhibited their innovative solutions at the British Pavilion and attracted attention.
In particular, Ventera Group and domestic offshore exploration company GeoView signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation at the UK Pavilion on Nov. 26.
The partnership aims to maximize synergies by combining the UK's offshore wind survey and engineering expertise with GeoView's domestic marine survey capabilities, while growing the domestic offshore wind industry.
“We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the development of the domestic offshore wind market by combining Ventera Group's global expertise with GeoView's local experience,” said Kim Hyun-do, CEO of GeoView. ”We will actively support the growth of the domestic offshore wind industry.”
“This agreement is perfectly aligned with the ambitious goals of the Korean offshore wind industry and Ventera Group's strategy of supporting emerging markets and continued growth in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Baek Jin-ho, CEO of Ventera Group Korea. ”We look forward to the organic combination of our specialized experience and experiences to help develop the Korean offshore wind industry.”
Tony Clemson, Commercial Counsellor, Department of Trade and Industry, British Embassy in Korea, said: “We are delighted to be able to promote the UK's capabilities and proposition as an offshore wind powerhouse at a global event such as the Asia-Pacific Wind Energy Summit, and we hope that this MOU will pave the way for continued UK collaboration with the developing Korean offshore wind industry, similar to the collaboration between Ventera Group and GeoView.”
The UK government continues to prioritize the green transition and has identified the clean energy industry as a key growth sector in its new industrial strategy. The UK currently has the second largest offshore wind market in the world and the first in Europe. It has four of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.
The UK was the first major economy to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% between 1990 and 2022.
