Sawasdee Seoul Thai Festival 2024, a festival that brings together traditional and modern Thai culture, was held on October 5 and 6 at Cheonggyecheon Square in Seoul. 

 

 

Organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, the festival showcased a variety of Thai culture, including Thai food, T-POP performances, Muay Thai, and more, giving Seoulites and tourists a chance to experience the charm of Thailand up close.

 

 

The festival ran from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 5 and until 8 p.m. on Oct. 6, with various programs that allowed visitors to experience both Thai tradition and innovation in the heart of Seoul. 

 

 

In particular, live performances by T-POP artists provided an exciting introduction to Thailand's contemporary culture, while Muay Thai, a traditional Thai martial art, and Nuat Thai, a traditional Thai massage, were also introduced.

 

 

The festival's opening ceremony was held on October 4 at Grand Hyatt Seoul. In his welcome speech, Thai Ambassador to Korea Tanee Sangrat emphasized, “This year's festival has a special significance as it marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Korea. The theme of the festival is significant.

 

“While we seek to promote and cherish all time honored cultural traditions, we also highlight contemporary type innovation and passion through the unique character and the sound of the pop with wider people in Korea.”

 

 

Representative Kwon Young-se, a member of the National Assembly of Korea, also attended the event to celebrate this momentous occasion of friendship between the two countries.

 

 

The event also featured a booth jointly operated by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai AirAsia X. Visitors tried their hand at making Thai-style beaded bracelets or joined a demonstration on how to make Thai sauce, and there were plenty of activities for families to enjoy, including a photo zone and game zone.

 

 

Launched in 2015, the Thai Festival has been a popular annual event in Seoul, and came back this year after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's festival was especially meaningful as it celebrated the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Korea.
