President Yoon Suk-yeol received Sarah Sanders, the governor of the U.S. state of Arkansas, in the Presidential Office, on March 11 and exchanged views on strengthening the U.S.-ROK alliance, promoting cooperation between the two countries, and supporting the Korean community.

The President said that Arkansas, known as the hometown of General MacArthur, who led the miraculous 'Incheon Landing' in the Korean War, has a special connection to Korea, and hoped that just as the U.S.-ROK alliance, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, is evolving into a 'global comprehensive strategic alliance,' the cooperation between the two countries will deepen in various ways.

The President also said that he hopes that Governor Sanders, who has shown outstanding leadership as the first female governor in the history of Arkansas, will use her visit to play an important role in the development of the alliance and the relationship between the two countries.

Sanders praised the recent developments in the U.S.-ROK alliance and said she had very fruitful discussions with leading South Korean companies during her visit that will further expand the U.S.-ROK cooperation. In particular, Sanders noted that Arkansas has great potential for lithium development, and she hopes to see more South Korean companies locate in Arkansas, which has a pro-business environment.

The President called for special attention and support for the Korean community in Arkansas, which numbers approximately 6,500 people, saying it is a model community that contributes to community development and plays an important role in strengthening friendship and ties between the two countries.

Sanders said that the Korean community, a proud member of Arkansas, has served as a great bridge between Korea and Arkansas, and he will continue to work for the empowerment and development of the Korean community.
