On the afternoon of September 18, President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is in New York for the 78th High-level Session of the United Nations General Assembly, held a summit with Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino Alessandro Scarano and Adele Tonnini for the first time since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2000.

During the meeting, President Yoon requested San Marino's support for the 2030 Busan World Expo and exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations.

President Yoon expressed his pleasure to hold bilateral talks with San Marino, a country that shares core values such as democracy and human rights and cooperates closely on the international stage, and hoped that the MOU on tourism cooperation with San Marino, with its beautiful and pristine natural environment, would be signed soon to revitalize exchanges in the tourism sector.

Captains Regent  Scarano and Tonnini praised the steady increase in bilateral economic cooperation and looked forward to creating the necessary legal framework for bilateral economic cooperation, including a double taxation agreement and an investment guarantee agreement.

They expressed their pleasure at the recent signing of a friendship exchange agreement between San Marino and Pyeongchang County, and hoped to promote tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Korea and San Marino, as well as trade.

President Yoon said that the combined potential of K-Culture and San Marino's cultural industries will enable cooperation between the two countries in the field of cultural and creative industries, and called for closer communication on ways to cooperate in these areas.

The two sides agreed to further enhance bilateral exchanges on the occasion of the meeting.
