President Yoon holds a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida

Bilateral cooperation is proceeding at a rapid pace in various areas

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was visiting Camp David to attend the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit, held a Korea-Japan summit with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for about 20 minutes on August 18 local time.


During all of the talks, Kishida offered condolences to the passing of President Yoon's father, a message of consolation for the damage caused by heavy rains this summer, and the President thanked him.

 

 

The two leaders welcomed the Korea-Japan summit, which will be a milestone in the development of cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan, and evaluated that cooperation between the two countries is proceeding at a rapid pace in various areas thanks to improved relations between Korea and Japan.

 

The two leaders agreed to promote cooperation between Seoul, Washington and Tokyo in response to the escalating North Korean nuclear and missile threats. In addition, the U.S. and South Korea will closely coordinate to implement the U.N. Security Council resolutions related to North Korea.

 

The two leaders welcomed the rapid normalization of economic and financial cooperation as well as security cooperation between the two countries, and called for more active consultation channels, including the resumption of high-level economic councils in the second half of the year. 


In addition, the two leaders agreed to hold a strategic dialogue on the vice foreign ministers between Korea and Japan in the second half of the year based on communication between the diplomatic authorities.

 

The two leaders decided to continue communicating at various levels, including the leaders.
