Uzbekistan Claims Top Spot at International Combat Readiness Competition in South Korea, Setting Three Tournament Records

A 33-member Uzbek military delegation finished first among 14 teams at the 4th K-International Scientific Combat Competition, an outcome both sides framed as a reflection of deepening defense ties under the Korea-Uzbekistan Special Strategic Partnership.

Diplomacy Journal Kim Tae Yeon | SEOUL — A team of 33 servicemen from the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan took first place among 14 competing nations at the 4th K-International Scientific Combat Competition (K-ICTC), held in South Korea, in a performance that included three new tournament records, organizers announced on September 18.

The competition, organized by the Korean military command with the participation of leading special forces units from across the region, is widely regarded as one of the most demanding assessments of combat readiness in the Asia-Pacific region. Its program consisted of twelve exercises spanning both defensive and offensive tactical scenarios, including operations under limited visibility, rapid response to shifting battlefield conditions, and coordinated unit performance in assault and defensive maneuvers.

Organizers said the format is designed to evaluate not only individual soldiers' training but also a team's internal cohesion, decision-making speed, and adaptability under simulated combat conditions.

Uzbek Team Sets Three Tournament Records

The Uzbek delegation completed all twelve stages of the competition, which organizers said demonstrated strong cohesion, discipline, and tactical proficiency, resulting in a first-place finish overall. During the course of the tournament, the team set three new records that had stood unmatched throughout the competition's history.

Tournament organizers and observers pointed to the physical and tactical readiness of the Uzbek servicemen, as well as their composure and teamwork during the competition's most intense stages. Uzbek officials attributed the result to sustained efforts by the country's Ministry of Defense to modernize personnel training, adopt updated instructional methods, and expand international exchange of military expertise.

Uzbek Delegation Praises Korean Hosts

The Uzbek side expressed appreciation to Korean organizers for what it described as the event's careful organization and for the hospitality extended to the delegation during its stay. Uzbek servicemen also praised the professionalism of the Korean organizing team and the strong preparation shown by South Korea's own competitors, saying the high standard set by their Korean counterparts was itself a factor behind the record-setting performance.

Officials from Uzbekistan characterized the outcome as more than a professional or sporting achievement, describing it as a reflection of the trust and cooperation that has developed between the armed forces of Uzbekistan and South Korea over the course of their Special Strategic Partnership.
