Kazakh photo exhibition in Cheongju boosts cultural exchange

Diplomacy Journal David Kendall  | Nurgali Arystanov, Kazakhstan's ambassador to South Korea, met with Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan in Cheongju on January 20 to discuss ways to advance regional cooperation between their respective states.

During the meeting, both sides broadly reviewed cooperation plans across trade, economics, culture, and humanitarian fields. In particular, they agreed that exchanges and tourism cooperation between the two countries are seeing positive developments.

Chungcheongbuk-do is considered one of Korea's most dynamically developing regions, with high potential in industry, innovation, and tourism. This provides opportunities to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with various regions of Kazakhstan.

The highlight of the visit was the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition showcasing Kazakhstan's history, culture, and modern development. At the opening held at Cheongju Arts Center, Ambassador Arystanov emphasized that "cultural exchange projects are an effective means of promoting mutual understanding and strengthening friendly relations between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Korea."

The exhibition features approximately 50 photographs by artist Kim Sang-wook, a goodwill ambassador for Kazakhstan's Assembly of the People. Through the artist's lens, the works introduce the modern aspects of Kazakh cities and their rich cultural heritage.

The photo exhibition will be open to the public at Cheongju Arts Center until January 25. The exhibition is expected to provide an opportunity for Chungbuk residents to understand Kazakhstan's culture and development.

Both the Korean province and Central Asian country anticipate significantly stronger practical cooperation at the local government level following this meeting.
