The Yeosu World Island Exhibition Organizing Committee announced on June 28 that Paul Fernando Duclos Parodi, Peruvian Ambassador to South Korea, signed a letter of intent to participate in the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition.

Peru is a country with a long Pacific coastline stretching 3,000 km, and is known as a treasure trove of island culture and marine ecology, including the Bayesta Island, nicknamed the “Little Galapagos,” and the Uros Island on Lake Titicaca.

Through this participation decision, Peru plans to introduce its abundant island resources and culture to the world and will participate in “Peru Day,” an event held as part of the national day celebrations, alongside a traditional Peruvian music performance group.

Amb. Duclos Parodi stated, “The 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition is a global platform for discussing important issues such as sustainable island development and marine ecosystem conservation. I am very pleased that Peru will be able to share its identity as a maritime nation and the diversity of its island resources with the international community through the Island Expo.”

Kim Jong-gi, Secretary-General of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition Organizing Committee, welcomed the decision, saying, “Peru's participation will serve as an opportunity to expand the possibility of participation by Central and South American countries.”

He added, “We will continue to actively encourage participation from diverse countries across continents, including not only the Americas but also Oceania and Africa.”

Meanwhile, the organizing committee has confirmed the participation of five countries, including Peru, the Philippines, Palau, Japan, and Vietnam, and is currently in discussions with 14 other countries, including China, Malaysia, Senegal, East Timor, and Sri Lanka, regarding their participation.
