President Lee Jae-myung, who is visiting Kananaskis, Canada, at the invitation of the G7 (Group of Seven) Summit, held a summit meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and agreed to further strengthen cooperation, focusing on future areas.

According to the Presidential Office, President Lee met with Prime Minister Carney on the afternoon of June 17 (local time) and expressed his gratitude for Canada's invitation as the chair of the G7 Summit, saying that he would actively strive to meet the international community's expectations for South Korea.

Prime Minister Carney expressed his gratitude for President Lee's attendance and said that he would work closely with South Korea to strengthen the partnership between South Korea and the G7.

The two leaders also expressed their delight at the remarkable progress made by South Korea and Canada as “comprehensive strategic partners” in various fields, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as security and defense, energy security, climate change, and AI (artificial intelligence).

In particular, regarding President Lee's desire to further deepen security and defense cooperation with Canada, a long-standing ally and global partner, through South Korea's participation in Canada's submarine acquisition project, Prime Minister Carney said that he is well aware of South Korea's defense capabilities and that the two countries will actively cooperate for regional and global security cooperation in the future.
