The Central Council of Correctional Officers (Chairman Kim Hak-sul) and the Correctional Federation of Daegu Regional Correctional Office (Chairman Shin Jeong-ki) delivered emergency relief supplies worth 22 million won ($15,000), including cup noodles and bottled water, to the Gyeongbuk Northern Correctional Facility in Jinbo-myeon, Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk, which was damaged by a wildfire in March 28.

The Central Council of Correctional Officers and the Correctional Federation of Daegu Regional Correctional Office are private volunteer organizations commissioned by the Minister of Justice to engage in education and edification activities for inmates.

Kim Hak-sul, chairman of the Central Council of Correctional Officers, said in an encouraging speech, “It is our nation that shines in moments of crisis. In order to join the dedication of correctional officials, the members of the Central Council have collected donations and prepared emergency relief supplies, so please use them to stabilize the psychological well-being of prisoners.”

“We will not forget the dedication of the correctional officers who kept the inmates and facilities safe in the face of the fire, and we, the correctional officers, will make further efforts for the correctional reform of the inmates,” said Shin Jeong-ki, chairman of the Correctional Federation of Daegu Regional Correctional Office.

Kim Dong-hyun, the head of the Daegu Regional Correctional Office, said, “I would like to express my gratitude and respect to the members of the Correctional Council, who have always provided support for the development of correctional administration, for providing emergency relief supplies to correctional institutions in northern Gyeongbuk Province that were damaged by the wildfires. We will continue to build a system that can actively respond to emergency situations through solid training.”
