From September 27th to October 6th Peru participated as a guest country in the Andong International Mask Festival. In that occasion, Peru had a booth where 11 Peruvian masks were displayed as well as photos of the Great Inca Trail, typical costumes and Pucará bulls. All these items transported the visitors to the heart of Peru, immersing them in our festivals, customs, dances and traditions.
The Mayor of Andong, Kichang Kwon, the CEO of the Korea Foundation for Culture and Ethics, Dongwon Lee, City Councilors and Paul Fernando Duclos Parodi, the Ambassador of Peru in Korea, participated in the inauguration of the booth and in the ceremony of recognition of Peru as a guest country held on the main stage.
In the celebration of the central day of Peru, a group of Peruvian dancers participated, performing rhythms of the northern marinera, as well as the artist Lenin Tamayo, who offered a concert, presenting the Quechua Pop. Both participations were warmly received by the Korean and international public present at the festival.
The festival had a participation of more than 1.2 million people, with the Peruvian booth being widely praised among the attendees who highlighted the country's ancient culture, and the beauty of the country's objects and landscapes.
