Embassy of Azerbaijan organizes a symposium dedicated to the Khojaly genocide

Ambassador Hasanov says, “The massacre in Khojaly is clearly classified as genocide”

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan organized on February 26, 2024 a symposium dedicated to the next anniversary of the Khojaly genocide happened 32 years ago during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. 

 

The event was co-organized by the Korea-Azerbaijan Culture Center as well as Korea’s FarmConnect company. 

 

 

Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ramin Hasanov held a speech at the symposium. He pointed out that the massacre in Khojaly is clearly classified as genocide and ethnic cleansing according to the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide 1948. 

 

Because the civilian population of Khojaly city was deliberately and systematically murdered as a national, ethnic, racial and religious group. 

 

The panel discussions moderated by the Korean journalist and TV moderator, Ms. Baek Il Hong, followed the welcoming speeches. 

 

 

Prof. Dr. Rovshan Ibrahimov from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Prof. Dr. Hee Soo Lee from the Hanyang University, Prof. Dr. Jong-Il Kim from the Seoul National University and Soo-Hung Li as the Chairman of the Korea-Azerbaijan Culture Center participated in the discussions covering the topics of peace building and post-conflict developments in the region as well as Azerbaijan-Korea relations. 

 

The symposium was concluded with the comments by the IDP from the Garabagh region and currently resident of Seoul, Mrs. Rahil Ahmadova, who was awarded with the title of Honorary Citizen of Seoul for her activities in promoting Seoul’s multicultural environment.
