The Korea War Memorial Organization (KWO) and the U.S. Embassy in Seoul co-hosted a concert by the U.S. Navy Band at the central hall of the War Memorial Hall in Seoul on July 20.

The U.S. Navy Band, which visited Korea to attend the 2024 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference, is the Navy Band of Washington Headquarters, and this is the first time it has performed in Asia. 

The event was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Korea Philip S. Goldberg and Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea, Rear Admiral Neil A. Koprowski.

Under the direction of Lt. Commander Robert Coats, the U.S. Navy Band performed eight pieces, including the official fanfare from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the Olympic Fanfare and Theme, and the Star Wars main theme. As the final encore, the traditional folk song “Arirang” was played, giving a deep impression to the 600 visitors.

“I hope this performance will serve as an opportunity to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance and strengthen the friendship between the two countries,” said Baek Seung-ju, Chairman of the KWO, expressing his admiration and praise for the U.S. Navy's military band. 

“It was an honor to have the U.S. Navy perform at the historic War Memorial,” said Ambassador Goldberg. ”Today's concert reminded me of the value and strength of the alliance between our two countries.”
