Says President Yoon Suk-yeol at the 42nd Cabinet meeting

By Lee Jon-young

President Yoon Suk-yeol delivered his concluding remarks to the Cabinet meeting, addressing the Israeli-Palestinian situation and the proposed amendments to the National Audit and Investigation Code of Conduct. On Oct. 10.

The President said that "optimism should be forbidden" regarding the Israeli-Palestinian situation, and instructed the Cabinet to "keep a close eye on the situation from the perspective of the civilian economy and national security, and to be fully prepared."

The President also asked the Cabinet members to "explain the government's policies in an easy-to-understand, accurate and confident manner with the mindset of explaining them to the people," in reference to the National Audit, which began on Oct. 10.

In addition, the President emphasized that "prosecutors and judicial police officers should think only of the people and do their best to ensure their safety and prompt relief of their rights in mutual cooperation," referring to the amendment to the Regulations on Mutual Cooperation and General Standards of Investigation, which was approved at the Cabinet meeting.

The president reiterated that the two organizations "should not compete with each other in front of the people, but should utilize their respective strengths to create synergistic effects."

The amendment to the Investigation Guidelines Regulation was proposed to improve the investigation guidelines so that prosecutors and police can cooperate within the framework of the current law to take responsibility for cases and promptly investigate them, as the responsibility for cases has become unclear since the adjustment of prosecutors' and police officers' investigative powers in 2021, leading to side effects such as delays in investigating various civil cases and poor investigations.
