Continued strengthening of comprehensive green strategic partnership

By Kim Ji-eun

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held a summit with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on the afternoon of September 18.

During the meeting, President Yoon requested Denmark's support for the 2030 Busan World Expo and exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations.

President Yoon expressed his pleasure to hold bilateral talks with Denmark, a longtime friend who sent medical aid during the Korean War and shares the values of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and noted that the two countries have held annual Green Growth Alliance meetings since 2011 and have worked closely together in the field of green transition.

Prime Miniser Frederiksen noted that the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a "Comprehensive Green Strategic Partnership" in May 2021, and called for further expansion of bilateral green cooperation in a variety of areas, including offshore wind power, green shipping, and sustainable agriculture.

Prime Minister Frederiksen expressed his pleasure that the momentum of high-level exchanges between Korea and Denmark has been maintained, including bilateral meetings on the sidelines of last year's NATO Summit and this year's UN General Assembly, and expressed her hope to further develop the Green Growth Alliance between the two countries. She also expressed her hope to explore bilateral technology cooperation with Korea.

Frederiksen also noted that the recent handshake between the leaders of North Korea and Russia has caused deep concern in Europe, and that Denmark and South Korea will continue to work together for security and peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the region.

The two leaders took the opportunity of the meeting to further enhance bilateral exchanges and continue to identify cooperative projects that benefit both economies.
