President Yoon Suk-yeol met with New Zealand Governor-General Cindy Kiro on July 25 and engaged in extensive discussions regarding ways to enhance friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Armistice Agreement this year, President Yoon thanked Governor-General Kiro for his visit to Korea and also thanked New Zealand veterans for their sacrifice and dedication.

Both President Yoon and Governor-General Kiro evaluated the strong cooperative relationship between traditionally friendly nations, Korea and New Zealand, based on shared values. 

They also agreed on the need to further activate exchanges between future generations through enhanced cooperation in tourism, culture, and people-to-people interactions, and pledged the respective governments' interest and support.

As the third Governor-General of Maori descent, Governor-General Kiro mentioned that she witnessed President Yoon singing American pie at a White House dinner, and she sang a Maori traditional song in New Zealand's language, adding that the Korean song 'Arirang' is a traditional folk song of the Maori people, and spontaneously sang Arirang in New Zealand's language along with the attendees.
