President Yoon Suk-yeol holds summit with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store

To enhance substantive cooperation in the fields of economy, renewable energy, and defense

President Yoon Suk-yeol held a summit with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on July 11 on the occasion of his participation in the NATO Summit to discuss the development of bilateral relations, enhancement of substantive cooperation, trends in the international situation, and cooperation on the global stage.

 

 

President Yoon expressed gratitude for Norway's long-standing friendship as a country that dispatched a medical support unit during the Korean War, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement. He also expressed expectations for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including renewable energy and defense, sharing universal values.

untries in the areas of offshore wind power, hydrogen energy, and carbon capture technology, and also expressed a desire for continued exploration of cooperation measures in the defense sector where Korea has competitiveness.

 

President Yoon emphasized the need for a united international response to the escalating nuclear and missile threats from North Korea. In response, 


Prime Minister Støre stated that, based on his experience serving as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (2021-2022) and as Chair of the North Korea Sanctions Committee, he would closely cooperate with Korea, which has assumed a new term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and fulfill its responsibilities to the international community.

 

Both leaders agreed to actively participate in the international community's efforts to end the war in Ukraine and restore peace, and to continue their cooperation on various international issues, including Arctic research and infectious disease response.

 

Meanwhile, President Yoon requested the support of the Norwegian government for the successful hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo, which he hoped would serve as a solution platform for the challenges facing humanity.
