 Korea Forest Service signed a joint forest project agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the Seoul City Hall on May 8 to revitalize forest recreation and leisure.

Korea Forest Service announced on April 28 that it plans to create a walkway in Namsan Pine Forest, a national forest cultural asset, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and forest leisure facilities such as campsites, tree houses on trees, and tree climbing.

This agreement plans to contribute to improving the quality of life of urban residents by revitalizing forest recreation and leisure activities in Seoul, spreading garden culture in the city center, and expanding wooden buildings.

According to the agreement, Korea Forest Service will provide national forests free of charge, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will create forest recreation and leisure facilities, and the two organizations will jointly cooperate to spread garden culture and expand wooden buildings in downtown Seoul.

The two organizations plan to actively and organically cooperate with each other to come up with various support measures, such as spreading the garden culture and expanding wooden buildings using domestic wood.

The 2024 Seoul International Garden Fair, which will be held at Ttukseom Hangang Park in Seoul, will be held in cooperation with Korea Forest Service, and will jointly cooperate in expanding garden infrastructure by creating smart gardens and indoor/outdoor gardens in urban living spaces.

By 2026, the two organizations plan to use domestic wood to create nature-friendly forest healing centers and forest shelters around urban parks and hiking trails, and actively expand the creation of wooden buildings such as indoor and outdoor interior installations using domestic wood.

Nam Sung-hyun, minister of Korea Forest Service, said, "Seoul will be reborn as a top-class city with global brand value, and Korea will open the era of forest renaissance through advanced country-type forest management."
