Yoon asks Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa to support Busan’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo

President Yoon Suk-yeol held a brief summit with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who is officially visiting Korea, and discussed bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and the 2030 Busan World Expo on April 12.

 

President Yoon expressed his joy, saying that Portugal has developed a long-standing friendly relationship with South Korea, and is well known as Bento's country that impressed our people by advancing to the round of 16 at the Qatar World Cup and the country of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

In response, Prime Minister Antonio Costa said he was very happy to visit South Korea to strengthen bilateral relations and develop economic cooperation.

 

President Yoon said that Korea and Portugal have great potential to expand cooperation in future industries such as semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries, and that the Korean government will also pay attention to Korean companies' investment in Portugal.

 

Prime Minister Costa said he has a strong will to further strengthen economic cooperation with South Korea and expressed hope that his visit will lead to closer cooperation between the two countries in semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy, and auto parts.

 

President Yoon asked Portugal to support Busan, which has many advantages as an international city and a marine city, to hold the 2030 Busan World Expo in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation at a mid- to long-term level.
